Advisory Board

The Advisory Board advises the team and Foundation Board on high-level matters, including those concerning their areas of expertise.

The Board meets online every 6 months. This board consists of members from the Patient Board (Ariel) and Scientific & Clinical Board (Anne-Kathrin), as well as additional experts with relevant expertise.

The primary responsibilities include: 

  • Harmonize the perspectives of patients and scientists and resolve differences in insights (also see: how the various Boards interrelate)

  • Monitor progress, dissemination, and implementation of grants. 

  • Advise on community outreach. 

  • Advise the team and the Foundation Board on issues that may arise. The Foundation Board makes the final decisions.

Vivienne Matthies-Boon
Socrates Professor “Humanism, Europe and Global Justice” & Associate Professor at Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religion Studies, Radboud University.

Prof. dr. Vivienne Matthies-Boon is Professor by Special Appointment in the Department of Ethics and Political Philosophy at Radboud University. She coordinates the Research Centre for Philosophy and Society at the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies. She leads the Ethics Platform within the National Network of Excellence for Post Covid (PCNN) and coordinates an ethics committee that advises and guides the establishment of Long Covid outpatient clinics in the Netherlands. She is interested in themes of vulnerability, (in)justice, existential crisis and politics related to Long Covid patients. She studies the experiences of Long Covid patients and actively contributes to the public debate in the Netherlands about Long Covid.

Renske van Wijk, PhD.
Coordinator External Collaborations at Technical Medical (TechMed) Centre University of Twente

Renske holds a PhD in Health Sciences and a BASc in Physical Therapy. She works as coordinator external collaborations at the research institute Technical Medical Centre of the University of Twente. She strives for more societal impact of research by better understandings and more collaboration between academia and society. Her work includes expanding the network with societal partners and citizens, strengthen regional collaborations and support in building multidisciplinary consortia and collaborations.

Professor Jouke Tamsma, MD, PhD
Medical Director, TechMed Centre at the University of Twente & Leiden University Medical Centre

Jouke is Medical Director of the TechMed Centre at the University of Twente and at the Leiden University Medical Centre in The Netherlands. He also works as a medical specialist in internal and vascular medicine and he serves on various supervisory boards in healthcare. Driven by personal experience in his family, Jouke is committed to strive for better inauguratie, resources and support for those affected.

Dr. med. Anne-Kathrin Brüggemann

Medical doctor at the Institute of Social Medicine, Epidemiology and Health Economics, University Berlin (Charité)

Anne-Kathrin has been involved in voluntary work, treatment and research for COVID-19, Long Covid conditions and VAE (vaccine adverse events) since 2020 in psychosomatics, family medicine, geriatrics and public health and is involved in research projects on Long Covid conditions at the Institute of Social Medicine, Epidemiology and Health Economics, University Berlin, Germany (Charité). She is actively engaged in the dissemination of knowledge about pathophysiology, diagnostics and treatment of all kinds of Long Covid conditions.

Ariel Conn

Ariel Conn is the founder of Mag10 Consulting. As a consultant and expert, she works with research institutions and think tanks to help with research, science communication, and project management for various scientific and governance issues, including autonomous weapons systems, AI ethics and policy, nuclear weapons, climate change, and other global catastrophic risks (GCR).  

Ariel contracted Covid 19 in the summer of 2020, and suffered with Long Covid for about 1.5 years. She is now fully recovered and writes about her experiences on The Healing Pathways newsletter and The Healing Pathways website.
